An Israeli company will launch a EUR 110mn project for the construction of hydropower plant on the Valbona River in northern Albania, AINA news agency reported, citing Israel’s ambassador to Tirana, David Cohen. The project is expected to be launched in May. Although no further details have been provided, it is considered that this would be one of the key projects in the Albanian energy sector, which has attracted a number of foreign investments in recent years. Austrian energy companies Verbund and EVN invested EUR 200mn in the construction of Ashta hydro power cascade, which has a combined capacity of 53MW. EVN, in cooperation with Norwegian company Statkraft, will build a hydro power cascade on the Devoll River at estimated cost of EUR 950mn.
